Dr. Shannon Gibson

Dr. Gibson was appointed principal of Union County High School in July of 2016.  Prior to that he served as a teacher, coach, and administrator in Spartanburg County, where he was also the founding principal of a charter school. Most recently, he was principal of a high school in Orangeburg County.

Dr. Gibson received his undergraduate degree in Secondary Mathematics Education from the University of South Carolina at Spartanburg, Masters in Educational Administration from Cambridge, and Doctorate in Education Leadership from University of Phoenix.  His dissertation was a study on the relationship between the race and gender similarities of teachers and students correlating to school discipline.

Dr. Gibson has been married to Marcia for sixteen years with five children (two girls and three boys) ranging in age from 3 to 12 years.  Outside of school he has served as a foster parent, deacon, Sunday school teacher, and Chairman of the Board of Building Hope Together Ministries.  He also enjoys traveling on short term construction mission teams.
